WHY WRITE?

I write as an outlet not just for my imagination but also for the reader. I really love it when I can’t wait to finish writing a story to see how it ends because it took on a life of its own, constantly changing characters and plot themes. I live for a comment like “wow, I didn’t see that coming.” Basically, I write to entertain not just myself but hopefully the reader as well.

During my past career in the transportation industry, I wrote thousands of memos and letters that were concise and to the point as they should be. I found it challenging to balance factual, quick-to-the-point business-type writing with the more interesting and engaging format of writing for pleasure and hopefully for the enjoyment of others. Regardless of the genre, I always try to create plot twists and surprise endings combined with conspiracies, treachery, betrayals, and sometimes unconventional humor. I additionally try to make the unbelievable believable. I draw inspiration from several authors such as Jules Vern, H G Wells, Michele Crighton, Steven King, Michel Connelly, Ian Fleming, Robert Ludlum, Mario Puzzo, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and many more. Additionally, I find fascinating people like Carl Sagan, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawking, and their predecessors to be a great influence on my writing.

I’ve also been influenced by popular movies and books, such as Star Wars, Star Trek, Dune, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

A Moment of Inspiration

Many years ago, I was in my home office, sitting through an unbearably long conference call. It was a nice spring day, and the wind was rustling the leaves on a young tree in the backyard. It almost sounded like the little tree was signing. I put pen to paper and outlined the children’s story JOEFEE & OAKEE. (The only story I’ve written suitable for a young audience.) To this day, I have no memory of what the meeting was about.
